I tend to think Martin is overrated, and that there are much better fantasy authors out there, though I do agree that the first 3 books in ASoIaF are pretty darn good. The 4th book, however, was such a GD bore that I haven't even bothered to read Dance.
I think Dostoevsky is required reading for any Christian.

Sorry to nitpick, but I have to disagree with this. Atheism is not itself a religion; however, many atheist philosophies function as quasi-religions.
