This is one of the hardest things to break free from. However, it tends to work best in creative endeavors and not in the straight world. Even so, the guy who is forever planning and never doing remains a cautionary tale--years later, this person is still trying to find the PERFECT writing method instead of just actually writing.

Giving up on perfection and embracing the chaos of experimentation and just doing things is liberating.

It really is. Perfection takes two forms: the "Am I doing it right?" form, and "Does everyone else like it?" form.

Both are bad, but the latter can feed into the former. The thought pattern emerges where worry of criticism leads to a focus on finding the perfect "hack," when just starting the work is the best way to alleviate both worries.
