This is exactly where I am at. I did an evaluation of the time cost benefit ratio to twitter and it came up short. The loss of time and attention that could be spent being present in my life, writing, or doing anything far outweighs the benefits of Twatter banter. I'm going to focus more on long form writing and avoid the slot machine elements of social media.

Good for you. The slot-machine nature of these platforms is part-blessing (New people! New perspectives!) but mostly a curse designed to flood you with dopamine, kill your attention span, and keep you hooked. On balance, it’s not worth it. Life requires enough attention as it is. At least when you’re engaging in other hobbies and pass times, or spend time with family and friends, you’re building something, whether memories and bonds or an actual, physical object. Social media is just a drain.

Hey Alexander!

I noticed you'd disappeared from Twitter a few weeks ago, guess this explains why 😂

Great piece, I get a decent chunk of traffic/income from the platform and even then it's often a coin toss whether the distraction is worth it.

Glad to see you're still alright even if we'll miss you on Twitter.

Great to hear from you too. Yes indeed, here I am. I think it’s cool you have figured out how to monetize that platform. I never cracked that code, but even if I had, it was still a black hole sucking up my time and energy. The ostensible benefits didn’t outweigh the substantial costs.

Agreed! It works for me, but if I didn't do the ghostwriting part I would scale my involvement way back. One day...

Drop me an email when you have a book launch etc. and I'll send out an email/spread the word on Twitter. Hopefully you can still get some of the benefits without the cost.
