This is just the sort of story that reminds me of a fantastic meal. It makes you want for more, want to continue the experience, yet at the same time fully satisfies with what is present. If you were to continue writing stories in this world, I'd happily partake of them. If not, I'll remain happy with the way this one roused the appetite of my imagination.
I appreciate it Sharon! So that is not "my" Christmas book per se; it's an anthology by my friends over at Periapsis Press that I contributed a story for (Mine is a lighthearted sci-fi heist called "Christmas Spirits"). They did another anthology last year, but I didn't finish my story in time to submit. However, that story is posted here on my Substack and is called "Partyboy Finally Does Something Useful for One in His Life," and it's more of a Christmas horror.
Still, snag the second Periapsis Christmas anthology anyway--they put out good stuff and are fighting the good fight.
This is a side-story unrelated to the world in an unfinished novella I do plan on finishing. And I do use some Greek mythology/words/etc. in this setting.

Thank you! I have some plans for this world, but not this war. An unfinished novella I want to get written and post on here.
Thank you for the link. I just bought your first Christmas book and if it’s really good, I will get the second one as well! I got it on Kindle.

Very nicely crafted- thank you for sharing!
Thank you for reading, and for the kind words.
Beautiful story
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Can I include it on Sword & Saturday?
Absolutely. I would be honored.
Yay!
One for the morning digest, too, then. Saving it so I don't forget.
Cool—thanks!
Boom.
Good piece. Grim defiance.
Glad you liked it. Thank you.
Nice... Great writing...
Finally, another person who created an elf-like race that's not elven.
The death blow was awesome.. thank you so much for this story.
Thanks. In this world, elves are like cowboys.
Being a fantasy enjoyer and writer myself, this was brilliant. Thanks, mate!
Appreciate the kind words!
Very good! Be a crime if you don't expand on this!
Stay tuned. I have an unfinished novella from years ago set in this world.
Very cool!
What a great read that was. Thanks for sharing.
I appreciate that Kevin! Glad you enjoyed it.
Really enjoyed this. Thanks for sharing.
Jason: thank you for reading.
Holy hell this is amazing — it paints such a vivid picture in such a compact timeframe. A great pilot episode to a show
Glad you enjoyed it my friend!
So is this an excerpt or a fresh idea based on an established world? I like the not-elf elves.
Do you incorporate any Greek mythology/creatures in your fiction?
This is a side-story unrelated to the world in an unfinished novella I do plan on finishing. And I do use some Greek mythology/words/etc. in this setting.
I'm such a sucker for firearms in my fantasy stories. Also, world building through mocking the dumb antagonist is great.
Yes mockery is always a surefire winner.
So you're expanding this into a novel, right??
Well, not this story. I have an unfinished novella focusing on one of the Magikoi from Kyrione, who are mentioned in passing in this story.
